My research this week has been a bit sporadic as I was trying to pin-point exactly where I am going to go with this project....
One thing I am definitely going to explore more, is a space's trace upon us as humans, basically the vice-versa of what I have been investigating over the past few weeks.
Another thing I feel drawn to , is trying to capture a person's trace on a space without actually focusing on a figure as such. I was researching 'human traces' online and came across this artist, Gaea Todd. Her work 'Reverberations' caught my attention because it conveys the sense of human traces retained upon a space without using the human form. I love how she uses glass and wine, these materials are important symbolically to her work : "Material investigation is … imperative to my practice. My conceptual threads are interwoven with materials and their loaded vocabulary. The attenuated forms carry symbolic liquids, with honey, wine and milk all serving as metaphors for the corporeal. The viscous movement of the liquids maintains a dichotomous sense of tension and release and imbues the viewer with desire through promise."
Reverberations :
Based on the traces of human presence that a building retains. Wine filled glass veins mark out the holes and dents that have been left behind, indications of presence. As the viewer moves and breathes the piece reverberates.
I also like the sculpture piece 'Chair'. It deals with a human's trace upon a space through looking at
'Presense and Absence'.
